About the Center for Dispute Resolution's (CDR) Mediation Training

The CDR has been offering high quality professional mediation training for nearly 15 years. Our highly interactive training allows you to develop your mediation skills through role plays and interactive exercises. You also receive one-on-one coaching from experienced mediators with a wide range of backgrounds.

The first three days of this training focus on basic mediation skills as applied to civil cases, and if you participate in the full five days, you will be trained to conduct family mediations as well, including divorce and child custody mediations.

The online training takes place from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. each day and covers a variety of topics, including:

  • The causes and dynamics of conflict
  • Listening skills
  • Negotiation theory
  • Interests vs. positions - getting at the real goals in a conflict
  • Diversity, power and conflict
  • Mediation techniques and much more.

Outstanding Online Learning - The CDR is experienced with offering highly interactive online training that incorporates lecture, small group activities, discussion, role play and other dynamic elements in a socially-distanced format. By structuring our online trainings using the most up-to-date virtual education pedagogy, the CDR provides excellent learning outcomes and outstanding student experiences while protecting your health and safety.

Our mediation training offers an unparalleled learning environment. We bring together expert presenters, as well as coaches with experience in all types of mediation. Learn from mediators with a wide variety of perspectives and approaches to mediation and enjoy networking opportunities with experienced professional mediators and a diverse group of participants who come from many walks of life.

This 40-hour training meets the mediation training requirements for MO Supreme Court Rule 17 (general civil mediators) and Rule 88 (family mediators). Individual circuits may have additional requirements for mediators who wish to be on the court list for mediation referrals. The training has also previously been approved for mediators in other states, including Arkansas and Kansas, and meets most states' training standards.
