Description

Have you ever seen ABC's reality TV show, Shark Tank? If so, you may have seen the episode where Chris Gray, the co-founder and CEO of Scholly, pitched his idea to the shark investors after being awarded $1.3 million to attend any college of his choice.

Gray knows that finding outside scholarships is a difficult task. It took him seven months and over 100 scholarship applications to win $1.3 million. After attaining much success and paying for his undergraduate degree, he created an app, known as Scholly.

Scholly is a scholarship search app that helps students find and apply for scholarships.

Gray describes an inspiring story of a young man who overcame socio-economic barriers that stood in the way of him securing a higher education degree. Come and listen to his journey in overcoming poverty and eventually being the recipient of $1.3 million in scholarships.

Gray grew up in Birmingham, AL. During his senior year of high school, he began searching for colleges that interested him. However, during his senior year, his mom lost her job due to the recession and Gray found it difficult to pay the application fee that colleges and universities charge. He grew up in a low income family with two siblings and a single mother. His experiences in poverty made him realize that the only way to make it to college was to pay for it through scholarships.

Gray was featured on ABC's Shark Tank in February 2015.
