Description

The Brick City Gallery is pleased to present two new exhibits to close out the fall 2022 semester!

In the east gallery:

Every semester, the Brick City Gallery is pleased to host an exhibition of work by graduating students from the Department of Art and Design. The fall exhibition showcases the talent and skill of students who have spent years developing an artistic studio practice that will carry them into their professional careers.

In the west gallery:

Throughout the course of this semester, graduate students in the Art & Design Department have been reading Lorne Buchman’s Make to Know: From Spaces of Uncertainty to Creative Discovery for their interdisciplinary graduate seminary class. This book explains the idea of “make to know” as learning by doing, in which artistic discovery occurs through the process of making and exploration.

Using this book as a starting point, the students have had meaningful discussions centered around planned spontaneity, creative entry points, and how processes, materials, and concepts can guide the making process.

As a result, they have brought new approaches into their studios to guide them through their making process throughout the semester. Make to Know is a visual display of the results of those explorations, in progress and in their final forms.
