Description

Modern economic and political strains can make it hard to prioritize the beautiful, but art plays a vital role in individual and social health. As John F. Kennedy said, art, as a “form of truth,” can “nourish the roots of our culture.” Beyond art for its own sake, society benefits from those who fuse art with the application: architects imagine buildings that are inclusive and lovely, actors and directors create theater that is emotionally powerful and socially conscious, and writers expose brutal truths of human crises and yet remind us of our humanity, graphic designers create work of inspiration and functional in its communication, and the list goes on. How can artistic collaborations work across multiple disciplines to affect the world both abstractly and concretely? How can artistic “deeds” be recognized and encouraged for all their purposes throughout the community?
