Description

The Missouri State University Libraries will host the “Roads to Freedom: Slavery and Emancipation in St. Louis” exhibit throughout the month of February in the Meyer Library Lobby of the MSU Springfield Campus.

The exhibit tells the story of St. Louis enslaved Blacks and their quests for freedom, which began as early as the city’s founding in 1764 and continued through the reconstruction era of the late 1800s. The display puts a St. Louis focus on related historical events including the Missouri Compromise, the Dred Scott case, and the abolitionist movement.

The “Roads to Freedom” exhibit was curated by the Missouri Humanities Council and made possible by J. Howard Fisk Limosines.
