Good nutrition, regular physical activity and a healthy body weight are cornerstones of health at any stage of life. Americans know that choices about what to eat and drink and how to be physically active have lasting effects on an individual’s physical and emotional well-being. Government and private-sector policy solutions include expanded nutrition education and support, as well as the creation of numerous opportunities for physical activity, yet the adult obesity rate in the U.S. stands at an all-time high of 42.4 % (Trust for America’s Health). What are the demographic, social and environmental factors that mitigate against basic wellness, and how can they be bridged for a healthier America? How can the mind and the body connect for better emotional and physical outcomes? What equitable resources can be made available to navigate the nation’s wellness crisis?
