Panel Session - Eliminating digital deserts: Is it achievable?

Access to the internet enables one to live fully in the modern world. Yet, the Federal Communications Commission’s most recent report indicates that there are still 34 million Americans without access to high-speed internet services. To put it in perspective, that is 10 percent of the entire population of the U.S. How do we ensure that every American citizen and every school have equal access to the advantages of a high-speed digital world? Should this be a right of every U.S. citizen like access to fresh water, medical care and education? What happens to those who have no access to this service? The elderly? The disabled? The poor? Those in rural America?
