Public Observing Night at Baker Observatory

Public Observing Night at Baker Observatory
Date and time
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, November 16, 2018
Description

Please come out and see our newly updated facility and telescope. This will be a good night to view Mars, Saturn and Nebulas. There will be a quarter moon so galaxy viewing will not be ideal.

As always, observing events will take place weather permitting. If the sky is looking cloudy, please be sure to check our Facebook page for updates or call 417-836-5131 after 5 p.m. on the day of the event. In the event of a cancelation on Nov. 16, the observing night will take place at the same time on Nov. 17.

Note that other adverse weather conditions, such as tornado watches or wind advisories can also cause event cancellations. Please do not call before 5 p.m. on the day of the observing event, as it is unlikely that a decision will be made much before that.

The Baker Observatory is located in Webster County approximately 10 miles northwest of Marshfield, off Missouri Highway 38, at 1766 Old Hillcrest Rd. A traffic attendant will be stationed at the intersection with Rose Bush Drive to direct parking.

Park facing left (south) in the parking lot. Turn off your headlights immediately after parking.

GPS coordinates: 37.400127 -93.041723

NOTE: To help us keep the site dark for better viewing, please bring a red flashlight to see your way around the observatory entrance and grounds. Red tape or cellophane over a regular flashlight is OK. Wear sturdy, casual shoes or boots and dress for the weather.
