Talk on Digital Humanities and African History
Date and time
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM, October 21, 2016
Description

Dr. Henry Lovejoy (University of Colorado Boulder) will be giving the keynote address for the 2016 Mid America Alliance for African Studies Conference.  All students, faculty and the general public are welcome to attend the talk without paying the conference registration fee.

The title of the talk is "The Digital Humanities and African History: Linking Space and Time to Objects and Events." It will examine the current state of Digital Humanities in African and African-American History by focusing on approaches, strategies and challenges related to the development of West Africa Historical GIS. The project shows how diverse African communities interacted globally and offers data visualization and new knowledge about Africa and the African diaspora.  Digital initiatives, including this one, can connect digital objects to rebuild the life histories for tens of thousands of liberated Africans registered throughout the Atlantic World in different periods.
