Fiddler on the Roof

Date, Time and Location:
8:00 PM - 10:30 PM, July 15, 2014
Event Details:

For Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman in 1905 Tsarist Russia, the traditions of his faith and culture are unquestionable. Moreover, they are a source of joy and meaning in the midst of life’s hardships. But change is in the air, even in the little village of Anatevka.   Tevye and his wife, Golde, have five daughters, three of whom are of marriageable age. Yente, the village matchmaker, has found “the perfect match” for Tzeitel, the eldest: the town’s wealthy middle-aged butcher, Lazar Wolf. Tzeitel, however, has pledged to marry her childhood sweetheart, Motel, a humble tailor. Tevye is initially outraged by this breach of custom, but is won over by the commitment of the young couple and concocts a hilarious dream to convince Golde.  As each daughter’s choice of husband strays ever further from Tevye’s traditional values and expectations, he struggles to bend and accept the modern world. “Love,” he muses. “It’s the new style.”    Meanwhile, entire communities of Jews are being overrun and expelled by the Tsar’s forces, and the residents of Anatevka soon will be scattered. Though life is as precarious as a Fiddler on the Roof, Tevye and his family find the balance of love.  This charming tale is woven together with Tony Award-winning music and choreography, including “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Sunrise, Sunset” and “The Bottle Dance.” You’ll want to shout, “L’chaim!” (“To Life!”)
