United Nations expert Dr. Christopher Joyner will present a lecture

The Missouri State Public Affairs Committee will present a UN lecture entitled "The United States, the United Nations and Reconciliation" by Dr. Christopher Joyner of Georgetown University. Dr. Joyner will address President Obama/United States and United Nations perspectives, including ethnic and religious considerations. It will also address the notion of reconciliation, such as how the Obama administration is likely to interpret and implement it, how it squares with the UN conception and its aspirations in light of Islamic extremism. It will also include how successful efforts at reconciliation have been in the past and what those efforts portend for the future. Among Dr. Joyner's books are International Law in the 21st Century: Rules for Global Governance, Governing the Frozen Commons: The Antarctic Regime and Environmental Protection, Antarctica and the Law of the Sea, Eagle Over the Ice: The U.S. in the Antarctic, Reigning in Impunity for International Crimes (editor and contributor), The United Nations and International Law (editor and contributor), United Nations Legal Order (co-editor), Reining in Impunity for International Crimes, The Persian Gulf War (editor and contributor), and The Antarctic Legal Regime (editor and contributor).Professor Joyner recently directed the American Society of International Law's Project on United Nations Legal Order, funded by the Ford Foundation. He served as Vice President of the Interantional Studies Association, Vice-Chair of the American Council on the United Nations and four times past Chair of the International Law Section of the International Studies Association. He also served on the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law, as Chair of the International Law Association's Committee on Antarctica, and as a member of the ILA's Committee on the Law of the Sea. Professor Joyner is Co-Director of the Institute for International Law and Politics and oversees the Master's Degree in International Law and Politics in the Government Department.
