Book and Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner Music by Frederick Loewe
Based on George Bernard Shaw’s 1912 play, “Pygmalion”

Cockney flowerseller Eliza Doolittle dreams of a more comfortable and prosperous life than the one she has as a struggling street vendor.

Phonetics professor Henry Higgins contends that what truly separates the British social classes — more than wealth — is the way they speak. He makes a wager with linguist colleague Colonel Pickering that, with six months of speech lessons, even a rough guttersnipe like Eliza could pass for a duchess at an embassy ball.

Under Higgins’ tutelage, Eliza undergoes an intensive makeover of her speech, manners and dress to emulate that of “a proper lady.” But as she perfects her diction and demeanor, deeper changes also are taking place — and Higgins finds that his “creation” has a mind of her own!

Since its debut in 1956, this Tony Award-winning Best Musical has delighted audiences with its wit, wisdom and winning heroine. The score includes such beloved songs as “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?,” “With a Little Bit of Luck,” “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “Show Me,” “Get Me to the Church on Time” and “I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face.”
