Description

Formerly known as Tunnel of Oppression, this event is an interactive, campus-wide diversity program where student actors perform various scenarios that challenge participants’ thoughts, perceptions and inner feelings on social issues. Once the participants arrive, they will be guided through five scenarios. Each scenario will consist of a real-life situation scripted by and performed by Missouri State students.

Tunnel embodies our Public Affairs mission because it provides knowledge to become culturally competent about various issues. Through exposure to live scenarios, participants are challenged to face what occurs every day in our community. The topics that are covered by Tunnel vary from year to year. For 2020, the chosen topics include the following:

· Indigenous Peoples
· Beyond the Binary
· Immigration
· Racialization
· Ableism

Over 1,500 participants have experienced its powerful impact over the last nine years. This year, Tunnel will take place Jan. 28 and Jan. 29 in Wells House (located east of the Plaster Student Union). Please enter through the main entrance located on the north side of the building. The last tour will go at 8:30 p.m. each night.

Step out of your comfort zone and into the Tunnel!
